I have two bowls of confidence each morning for breakfast
— Eric Bristow

In the years pre and post the Taylor era two men dominated the world of darts. Both considered by many to be the greatest players of all time with alpha male confidence and exuberance that made them a compelling watch.

Bristow was ranked world number one, five times between 1980 and 1991 and in that period featured in 10 world championship finals, winning 5. He was by far the most recognizable player of his era and would intimidate his opponents by repeatedly telling them they had no chance against him.

In the period of 2014 to 2024 Michael van Gerwen has to date won a total of fourty seven majors, second only to Phil Taylor. His aggressive style, speed of throw and enthusiastic celebrtions have become a template for many who have followed. Van Gerwen has a ruthlessness about his game and a bulletproof confidence that makes him deadly under pressure.

It is a pity we shall never see these two great cavaliers do battle as it would be a intense locking of horns.
