After 17 days of playing it came down to one ball at the end. You’ve messed up and you can’t do any more about it.
— Steve Davis OBE

The 1985 World Snooker Final between reigning world champion and world number one player Steve Davis and veteran outsider Dennis Taylor is easily the most memorable snooker match of all time.

Watched by a TV audience of 18.5 million people into the early hours of Monday morning.

After roaring into an 8-0 Davis was hauled back as Taylor staged one of the most unlikely comebacks in snooker history, taking the game to 17 frames each and a final frame decider.

Davis, characteristically cool and unflappable under pressure was feeling the heat and the frame culminated in both players missing a number of makable shots on the black ball.

Taylor finally potted the black to win his only world championship - causing a major shock.
