“In the 80’s, darts was about nerve and bottle. Today it’s more like a fitness test with arrows?”

Eric Bristow

In the 1980’s darts was a pub-rooted, individualistic, personality driven sport with costumes, smiles and chants. Styles were more relaxed and drinking and smoking were commonplace on stage.

Legends like Eric Bristow and Jocky Wilson dominated through rhythm and confidence rather than athletic preparation.

Throw forwards 40 years and the chants are still there however players are now trained and professional. The modern legends like Luke Littler and Luke Humphries focus on consistency, scoring power and mental strength and play at relentlessly high averages.

How would modern players have faired in the 80’s? and vice versa? Which version do you prefer?
