Liverpool fans are crazy, they were unbelievable and I’d like to dedicate this victory to them. We were massive underdogs.... I didn’t think we were going to go all the way. But as you can see, we are never beaten.
— Steven Gerrard after the 2005 Champions League Final

The Reds are heavily associated with the European Cup/Champions League, having won the competition on six occasions. In fact only Real Madrid and Italian giants AC Milan have won European football’s elite competition more than the men from Merseyside.

Greame Souness was part of an outstanding team that won 3 European Cups between 1978 and 1984. He played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s retention of the European Cup against FC Bruges in 1978 at Wembley, providing the pass for Kenny Dalglish to score the only goal. In the 1984 final he was captain and lifted the cup after scoring on of the penalties in the shoot out that beat Roma.

On May 25th 2005 Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard lifted the club’s fifth European Cup after perhaps the greatest final in the competition’s history. Gerrard had previously hauled the team back from the brink of elimination earlier in the competition and did so again in the final. As a one team man his whole career, Gerrard will always be a Kop favorite and a club legend.
